Director

A director known for interdisciplinary Research & Technology Development, Dr. H.N. Dutta has 35 years of research and development experience. He did his Ph D from Kurukshetra University and has served at the National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi (NPL) under CSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, in various capacities (finally retired as a Scientist-G).

During this period, Dr. Dutta pioneered in a complex interdisciplinary field of planetary boundary layer over Antarctica, wherein, he made India as the sixth nation to have an indigenous PBL program and established India's highest altitude probing acoustic radar. He is the first Indian scientist to transfer Antarctic technology (Acoustic radar) to a private company. Later on, he led the team to develop ship borne acoustic radar, which was established onboard several ships sailing to Antarctica and probed the east Antarctic marine environment, making India as the first country to do so.

As part of the Antarctic research, he is responsible in deputing many academicians and technologists from various universities and institutions to Antarctica, developing highly technical human resource in the country. He himself participated in three Indian Scientific Expeditions to Antarctica. As part of a team, he is the first in the world to take an international patent on application of acoustic radar in detecting an earthquake precursor. He has the experience of undertaking and completing 40 S&T projects sponsored by various agencies.

Dr. Dutta was the Convener of CSIR-Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research at the National level for over two decades and was responsible for earning many laurels at the national /international levels. He is the first scientist who represented the entire Indian scientific & technological endeavors by being onboard the Antarctic tableau which formed part of the Republic-Day parade in the year 1999.

Dr. Dutta is known for writing and directing many scientific plays. He is the first Indian scientist to write 90 scientific scripts on Antarctica and undertake 100 hours of video shooting through a professional camera. He has been invited to deliver 125 lectures at national / international platforms and has won 15 awards.
